I didn't know where else to post this, because none of the people I know in real life know a whole lot about computers. Well, you see, it started what I was playing Diablo II. My computer would just restart itself completely every so often. Now it happens constantly. I can't join a game without it restarting. Then it came to the point where my computer would restart itself when I wasn't playing Diablo. I have no clue what's wrong. If anyone could tell me how to fix this that would be pretty excellent.

When restarting comes out of the blue (not as a consequence of any recent hardware or software changes) then it is usually either a heat problem or a power supply problem.

First, go to control panel -- system -- advanced tab -- in the "Startup and Recovery" section click "settings" and UNCHECK the box next to "Restart Automatically" Click OK until you are back to the desktop. This will cause your pc to show a blue screen when it has a major problem. If you get a blue screen, post the error codes that are shown.

Also when you reboot go to the event viewer in control panel -- administrative tools. Click on "System" and let us know the error meaasges that are shown on the list that have a time stamp close to the time of your freeze.

Next, try this:

1. Take the sides or cover off of your pc case, if you have a room fan set it up to blow into the case. Run your games and see if the restarting problem is cured. If so, go out any buy 2 or 3 80mm case fans and install them.

If the problem persists:

2. Open the case and unplug your cdrom drive, any second or third hard drives -- and take out every pci board except video -- disconnect every device connected to the pc except monitor, mouse and keyboard. Run the machine for a while and if the problem disappears go out and buy a new power supply, at least 400 watts.

If the problem still persists you may have a bad power supply. Get a new one at best buy or circuit city -- if after installing it the problem does not disappear, put the old power supply back in and return the new unit for a refund (within 14 days).

Let us know how you do on this problem. Posters that do not inform the forum about the usefulness of the advice they received do a disservice to the entire forum.

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your compyter. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: Check to make sure any new hardware or or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any nearly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as saching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press f8 to select advanced startup options, and then select safe mode.

Technical information:

*** STOP 0x00000050 (0xFWE0IADB4, 0x00000000, 0x8-06B5524, 0x00000000)

Beginning dump of physical memory.
Physical memory dump complete.
Contact your system administrator or technical support group for further assistance.

That's what the error message says when it shuts down. I have no idea what it means.

Tell us what the event view -- system messages say for the time of the blue screen.

Did you disconnect all devices except video, keyboard and mouse -- unplug all drives other than c: ???

Did you take off the covers and let air circulate???

If you have NOT made ANY changes in your system just prior to getting these shutdowns then you may have have a ram memory module that is going bad. If you have 2 sticks of memory in your pc, take them out and put one back in and boot the machine. See if it is stable, if not, try the other stick by itself to isolate a possible faulty stick of memory.

If you have only one stick iof memory, try to borrow one from a friend. Make sure any borrowed memory is of the same type -- pc2700, pc 3200 etc.

Don't do this if you will have less than 128mb of memory installed during the stick by stick test. xp needs 128mb to really work properly.

If you have done anything to your machine relating to new hardware or software installation -- this include trivial things like installing new fonts or plugging in a usb device you seldom use -- remove the hw or sw and then restore your machine to a date well before these problems started to occur using the xp system restore feature.

Run adaware, spybot search and destroy, and do an online virus scan at trendmicro.com.

Tell us if this problem repeats itself with the same stop (error) code??

Tell us if you get any other blue screen error codes other than the one you mentioned.

Keep us posted on progress.

At the time I got the error there were no error messages in the event viewer. I got this instead.

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x00000050 (0xd196b1f5, 0x00000001, 0x806b5524, 0x00000000). A dump was saved in: C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini101104-03.dmp.

A couple minutes later I gor errors messages in the event viewer and they said:

Timeout (30000 milliseconds) waiting for the ISEXEng service to connect.

The ISEXEng service failed to start due to the following error:
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

Ever since I took the casing off my computer and cleaned it out, it seems to take a lot longer for the error messages to appear.
