my computer is driving me nuts

Specs: Windows XP
i was playing WoW no problem right...well I left and went to a Dr appt. and came back and it was really laggy. I restarted windows and it gave me a file not found. After several attempts to get it rebooted it finally corrected itself somewhat. The sound is really super laggy and scratchy. As well as the performance is super slow. I did virus cans and stuff and it has not fixed the problem.

Some computers are slow when they come out of hibernation, depending on what settings you have in place for devices shutting down or simply using minimal resources...

Does the performance of your PC normally deteriorate if it's been on for a while? It could be an overheating issue. I'd take a look at the temperature of the CPU to keep an eye on that.

You say that Windows mentioned a file not found. Do you remember what file it was referring to?

What did you use for a Virus Scan and how up to date are your Virus Definitions? Remember there are a bunch of Zero Day Viruses that came out in 2010 and if your Virus Defs are not up to date it may have missed them.

If it is not a Virus then it sounds like your hard drive is bout to fail. Does your computer's BIOS support S.M.A.R.T.? If so run it on your hard drive to determine if it is going bad.
