My computer freezes up during the boot stage so I tried a few things and decided the best thing to do would be to reinstall the OS. When it finished loading during the first phase of the install on the first restart the computer locked up again now it is in the middle of loading the OS and it seems to not have an OS of any kind right now. So I did take a win98 boot disk and attempted to reinstall that way but I get messages that says to run scanreg because of 3 corrupt .sys files(himen.sys and DBL????.sys and every thing I type in for prompting it says bad command... There does'nt seem like much else to do, but reformat. I have a 45gig hard drive partitioned into 3 can I reformat just the c drive without losing all my data on D, and E. Also is there a way that I can transfer folders on the C drive in dos mode? any help would be a total life saver THANKS MUCH,

Yeah, you can reformat each drive on your partition, just use something like FDisk.
With the transfer of files via DOS, a golden oldie like XTree Gold will allow you to do that pretty easily, should be able to find a copy on the web somwhere.
Your HDD sounds as though it may have a fault. Maybe worth trying to install your OS to a different partition, and then run scandisk.

I ran a scandisk before trying to reinstall. I even ran a surface scan and it found nothing.
