Music files disappeared

Specs: Windows XP
Hello Tom; Like many people, I have an extensive collection of music which I catalogue according to artist name or band name. Today while adding some songs to the player I generally use I noticed several folders with music are gone as if they had never existed. 2 are extensive compilations of 2 particular musical artists. Some of my music that has a lot of instrumentation are lossless files which still exist, I also use flac and other formats which I don't think would cause an issue. I tried a small file restore program just to see if they could be found and no dice but I think that's because I defrag regularly. I have 2 hd's one of which is partitioned and most music is on E drive. Could administrator account have the files in question? It's a mystery to me Tom, I'm hoping your electronic crystal ball will have my music in it ;) Kindest regards, Victoria

Tom is not going to answer your questions. His name is just at the top. All volunteers here that try to help.

Sometimes a new player software will change file extensions. Have you recently updated or installed any new music or burner related software?

Are you sharing any music on a peer to peer network?

I do have the music folder shared with my husband on the LAN and I did recently update my Spider player to it's most up to date version.
