I have been having a problem recently where when i play music with winamp, the sound will fade in and out during the song for no obvious reason. i dont think its a problem with the speakers since i just got them (about 2 months ago, Creative Inspire T5400 speakers) but i dont know what else it could be. any help is appreciated. thanks.

can you try some other speakers? Age does not matter. Some things may not work the first time you use them. don't you have a friend or neighbor with some.

reseat the card also. are you playing cds in the rom or mp3 on Harddrive. if playing cds then may be the cd rom? I don't guess you could have virus-like activity causing this but run spybot and adaware and antivirus all updated.

if you have powered spkrs, it's most likely an IC or leaking capacitor in the electronics of the spkrs

MusicMatch? Ew.

If you want to quickly test to see if it's Winamp, just try playing whatever the media is with Windows Media Player. It comes with Windows (look in the Start menu), no nasty downloads needed.

yea, i'm not sure about new musicmatch versions. i've hung on to my old version downloads. i like the recorder because the source can easily be the line/mic/or cdrom. and you can start/stop a new recorded file easily from the mic/line input. it rips songs off cds easily and converts mp3/wave.

nick. what's wrong with the new music match. i haven't used them. flash? "buy me" popups?

It's the same reason I refuse to install Real player. Past experience has shown me that almost none of these "free" players are truly free. I stick by what I know to be good (no adware, spyware, malware) and it's amazing how much it helps prevent problems.

Aside from that, from what I've seen of MusicMatch it's a very bloated program that doesn't have any amazing functionality that makes running it worthwhile. Give me Media Player (since it's pre-installed) or Winamp (since it kicks ass) and I'm happy :)

Thought I'd chime in here. Musicmatch the player, isn't all that great. It's funny, all of these programs try to make themselves default player, you prevent it, and somewhere down the road, they'll manage to pull it off :-)

Anyway, the player isn't great, in fact they got me to pay 20 bucks for the pro version just to get the burning speed up to par with my burner. That was my stupidity though. Now Musicmatch the service, well, I'd like to marry it, lol.

P.S, the speaker problem you have is probably caused by the speakers themselves (this is assuming you have reseated the card and all). I have a 7.1 set from Creative Labs (powered), and when you use the volume control (not the computer, the seperate one that came with the speakers), the sound will go full blast then quickly fade to silent.

It is so freakin annoying.

thanks nick.

dw- when there's a "hottie" on the other end, always get her extension number so that you can get further support if you need it! It could be like a local radio station here... One of the DJs sounds so hot on air. After 2 or 3 years I finally got to see all 260 lbs of her. no offense to large people, she just sounded like someone else. lol.
