Problem description: During a nice session of the game Maple Story (which I'm sure has nothing to do with the problem at hand), I received my first bsod on my laptop. This lead to the computer restarting, and after getting to the windows screen with the blue bars running underneath, it bsod's again and starts the process all over again. I am unable to get into safe mode, which shows that the computer hangs, and then bsods after loading mup.sys. The only things I am able to do are get into bios setup (which yields nothing I can really work with), the boot menu (which I will talk about below), and the safe mode choice selection.

Attempted fixes: Using the windows xp setup disk to boot from, I am unable to get to the recovery console. It loads everything, and when it gets to the "Starting Windows" point it will bsod, and restart. I am really unable to do much else other than open the laptop itself up, which I'm weary of.

it appears that you have some kind of hardware problem. I suggest that you start by testing the RAM.

Memory test

There is a version to create a bootable floppy diskette and/or an ISO for creating a CD.
Run it overnight and any failures are unacceptable.

memtest86 brought up around 21000 errors before it locked up. Can I assume the problem was because of the ram? Should I try replacing the ram and see how it works?

Might just reseat the ram to start. If multiple sticks and your mainboard supports it remove one and run the tests again. Take the one out and put the one removed back in. run the tests again.

I would hate to see you buy more ram for a board that maybe cracked. This is assuming your mb isn't overheating.

Imagine the power if you knew how to internet search
