I've been having the same problems as many other people regarding Windows XP Professional not starting up because it can't find the file "mup.sys" It seems as though there aren't any remedies for this problem aside from reformatting. I really don't want to do this. I've tried even re-installing the Windows XP software but can't even get through that because it hangs on "Installing Kernel (DLL)" (something like that). I have a custom-built system with a 1.33ghz athlon, 512mb ram, 20gb hd, geforce2mx, and sblive sound card. If anyone has any solutions please respond.

I have e-mailed you a copy of this file. Boot to your Win XP CD, then start the Recovery Console. (Change the boot order in your BIOS Setup if you need to -- cd-rom first.) At the command prompt, reinstall to the 2 Windows folders I listed. If you succeed in starting Windows XP, immediately go to the command prompt window, type in 'sfc/scannow', with your Win XP cd in the drive. Takes 20 minutes or so to restore missing or corrupt system files. Good luck.
