Is there a way to have two mice hooked up to a computer and have separate cursors for each mouse? I tried using a program called CPNMouse but I couldn't get it to work even after I installed the drivers. I can think of all the possibilities....

No the cursor is part of Windows and cannot be altered legally for example to have two mice and two cursors. You can however control two workstations with one set of keyboard and mice using a special thing.

What if the software to do it was just a driver that I installed for the mouse. Is installing a driver for a mouse altering Windows? The CPNMouse was just a driver to install for the mouse.

I don't know about WinXP but I have had two mice connected and functioning in Win98. One of them was a serial mouse. I think the other was USB.

OtheHill: Did each mouse have it's own cursor?

Yes each mouse had a workable cursor. I am currently using a USB mouse connected to the PS/2 port. Device manager identifies the mouse as a PS/2 mouse. I tried to install a second USB mouse both as hot pluggedand on reboot. Installation failed both times. I do know that draftsmen and architects use input devices called tablets in conjuction with a mouse. I still think a serial port mouse would work. I can't try the serial mouse on this system as I would need to install a serial port bracket. Serial ports are headers on the MBoard.

Why do you want to do this anyway?

If I had two serial ports, each with a mouse plugged in, would each mouse show up with a cursor? What if I had one mouse plugged into the serial port and one into the ps/2 port, would that work to? I found a ps/2 to serial converter, I am guessing that that would work to.

The converter will only work if the mouse was designed to use it. Try it and find out. Remember serial and PS/2 are not hot swappable. shut down to connect. Do you have a serial port on the computer? Might want to try a USB to PS/2 converter also. If using a USB to PS/2 adapter try using on with the same brand name on it as the mouse.

My MB is an older one that I upgraded, so it still has one serial port. Do I have to have both the mice plugged into serial ports? Or can one be plugged into a serial and one into a ps/2 port?

It is possible to use two serial ports so I guess you need to experiment. Make sure the comports are enabled in the BIOS and are set to default values. I would try configuring one mouse at a time.

"No the cursor is part of Windows and cannot be altered legally for example to have two mice and two cursors." Now that's funny. LOL

I've had two mice connected and functioning before. One PS2 and one USB. They were independent of one another.

RAM, if you have the mice, give it a shot.

Life's more painless for the brainless.
