I am trying to multiboot XP, 98 and DOS. I first intalled DOS, then 98 and then XP all on seperate partitions. I used EFDISK to partition and hide partitions in the process. Seemed to work well. After XP installed its boot manager, I could only see 98 and XP as you probably have guessed. I tried editing my boot.ini file to add DOS, but I'm not exactly sure what to do. Right now my active primary partition is the 98 partition. If I set the DOS partition primary, then there is no boot manager and the system just loads into DOS. I tried using the MRBOOTER that goes along with EFDISK, but I want to customize it more than I can because it's shareware and I have limited options. Do I need another seperate program to control my multiboot or do I need to copy some bootsec files from DOS? Please be precise with your answer! Thanks!
Thanks,
Don

What DOS are you trying to use ? I have 10 or so PC's setup win98 2000Pro and win98 XP Pro, When I need pure DOS I just boot the win98 side hit F8 and select Command prop only.

I am loading ms-dos 6.22. I'm not quite sure what those m$ bulletins are helping me at all. All they really are saying is HOW to modify the boot.ini file. They don't specify IF I need to have a certain OS be the default, if dos NEEDS to be drive c: or how to add the ms-dos item to my boot.ini. When I opened my boot.ini it had c:\=windows98. When searching on the internet, it said when dealing with dos to set c:\=dos but I can't do that with win98 assigned there already. No where on the m$ pages did it have anything about integrating dos with windows.
Thanks,
Don

You can't have dos and 98 since they use the exact same boot files [msdos/io.sys].
Go to the left frame here and click on HowTos. Review the doc I wrote called How to use PQboot. Requires Partition Magic.
This procedure will set you up to boot dos, 98 and XP with them all thinking they are on c:.
Golly gee wilerkers everyone! Learn to Internet Search
