I tried to repair xp and it didn't go through to the end, now on my start up screen when I turn the computer on it has 2 operating systems to choose from. The default one doesn't work, how do I remove it from the start up screen?
"Dude, you're getting a Dell!"

You need to edit the boot.ini and remove the default one that isn't working
Instructions can be found here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/289022

The System Configuration Utility can check the entries in your Boot.ini file and delete those that no longer refer to an installed operating system. Follow these steps to check your Boot.ini file:
0. Go to → Start → Run, you need to type in msconfig, and press ENTER.
1. Now, you need to click on the BOOT.INI tab.
2. You need to click on → Check All Boot Paths.
3. If an entry no longer refers to the location of a valid operating system, Windows will displays a message asking whether to delete the line from Boot.ini.
4. You need to click Yes to remove the line (so the operating system won't appear on your boot menu) or No if you choose to leave it.

last post was intresting but potential very dangerous !
It screwed my XP Home setup
so better print , write down or copy first
the boot.ini file so you are able to restore it !

Once you have edited the boot.ini to remove the unwanted entry... also locate/delete the folder to which it referred from the drive.
Do this by setting the working version as default OS to boot. Then carefully note the folder name of that working version, and also that of the non-working version. This to be sure you know which to delete, which to leave untouched.
Sabretoof's how to is a useful/viable path; but with the caveat mentioned in the succeeding post in mind...
You can edit the boot.ini via MyComputer\properties\advanced/start-up/shutdown tab.
You can also set the default OS to boot there...
And it wouldn't hurt to make a hard-copy (i.e. paper copy) of the boot.ini as is...; and (as already moooted) a duplicate on the c: root as well (and remember where it is...) just in case...?
