Comment:

I am using Windows XP behind a firewall/socks5 server. The Windows Messenger works
perfectly when I configure the Socks 5 server credentials in the Connection tab.

The MSN Messenger 5 however, does not work even though I configured the same Socks
5 parameter in its Connection tab. It says it cannot connect to the service.

Comparing the Registry entries for Windows Messenger and MSN Messenger shows a difference
in the Key "Server". Windows Messenger shows "messenger.hotmail.com;207.46.107.5:1863"
while the corresponding MSN Messenger key only says: "messenger.hotmail.com". But
changing that key did not solve my problem either.

Well, why don't you just go on using Windows Messenger you might ask. As an answer let me just mention the annoying "There is a new version of Messenger available..." message that pops up at least every week and you can't get rid of that.

Anyways, does anybody have an idea?

Greetz, George

Windows Messenger and MSN Messenger are both the same, just use one of the two (I reccommend Windows Messenger), because MSN & Windows Messenger are clashing.
