I'm trying to fix an msn prob for a friend. Everything else is fine with the box, but msn won't sign in no matter what user you try. I've tried it with 3 know good user names, and everytime it gives me the error "...failed because password is incorrect or the name does not exist" I try the same user/pw combo's on my other box here, and they work fine. No firewall on her comp, every other internet app works perfectly, any ideas? Can you reinstall msn messenger anyway, I know it's part of the o/s more or less.

Do you have the latest version of msn messenger? I ask becauase i think they make you update the messenger if you want to log in. So if its not up to date you should get a message asking you if you want to update it. Just say yes and itll automatically update it for you and then you should be able to log in. Antoher thing you might wanto to check is the connection part of your preferences just to make sure theres no proxy server inputted. Im not sure what the exact error message is youre getting, but theres a few thing you might want to look at.

If it has been updated, have you tried to uninstall it from the control panel. It will roll back to the XP default messenger. You can also uninstall it from the windows components, or try repairing it.
