I use MSN Messenger quite a bit. I recently updated to 6.1, and the other week it asked me to update - well not asked, the box said I MUST update, if i didnt i couldnt sign in.
Well I go to sign in today and its asking me to update AGAIN! I know older versions of MSN Messenger dont work anymore, but they can't keep expecting me (im on 56k) to download whenever they do some small fix in the program - the download always takes ages, is there any way around this? Anyone else got asked to update frequently?
Cheers,
alex

i am having the same problem since today afternoon. i use windows xp and am on cablent via LAN. Until yesterday, December 4 i could sign in to the msn messenger with ease. i have msn msngr 6.1. since today afternoon i am being prompted to update to the latest version everytime i try to sign in. i cannot download the latest version becuase it takes a million years to download. and the site does say that the version available is indeed still 6.1. i am about to loose my mind. i have done everything i could but i can't sign in. HELP!

Might be problem with server or something....I havnt updated yet and it still works here. I do get the notices there is a new version..but I can still sign in. I am waiting until I see several ppl have downloaded the update without problems before I do...

I got the same prompt this morning too. Couldn't use messenger til I updated it. I downloaded the update (took about an hour on my dial up) and I have had no problems, works fine. Only thing is god knows what was in the update cos it looks no different!

Yes it does look the same to me...no problems with it...version 6.1.0203...
Dial-up here also and took about 6 minutes...it's only a 4.72 mg file...
Download it directly from the site and save it to disk instead of letting messenger installer handle it...just cancel when it starts and choose to go to website...
