MSN Messenger Not Signing In

Since this morning I haven't been able to log into MSN Messenger v.6.2. It gives me the error message...
We cannot sign you into .NET Messenger Service, possibly becuase of a problem with the service or your internet connection. Error Code 0x81000301
...after trying to sign in for about 15 seconds. I can still log into hotmail. Clicking help in the error dialog box just brings me to a site that says runtime error. I've tried signing in with both Hotmail and MSN accounts. Is this just that MSN is temporarily down?
