Open MSN Messenger and click on Tools at the top left=>Options=>Preferences Tab=>and remove the check mark where it says "Run this program when Windows starts" and then click on "OK".

Oh I see, right click the little green MSN Icon at the bottom right of your task bar and click on "Sign Out" and then click on "Sign In" and then remove the check mark where it says "Remember my name and password on this computer" and erase all the the info besides "Sign-in name" and "Password" then click on OK and see if that works.

If that does not work take these steps:

How to Remove MSN IM Sign-in Names:

First step is to get to the Control Panel. Do this any way you choose.
Once in the Control Panel, locate the User Accounts Icon and double click on it.

Now choose the user account that is the computer administrator and double click on it.

Now at the top left hand corner you will see “Related Task” Under that you will see “Manage My Network Passwords” Double click on “Manage My Network Passwords. A box will appear with all of the names you have signed into MSN IM with. You can now remove as you see fit.

Now, if you remove the name that is signing in automaticly it will force you to re-enter it, this time do not place the check mark next to sign in automaticly, I had to take these steps myself.

Morning KTTD,
There is another way to stop the damn thing from signing in.
I am using Zonealarm as a firewall. Just deny Messenger access to the internet as a server!
It tries to connect when in Outlook Express as shown by the icon in the taskbar blinking a couple of times and then it stops the sign- in attempt.
I don't know if other firewalls are as easy to set or not.

Just a thought from the far reaches of what is left of my mind from using Win 98 before going to XP. LOL

Have a good one,
XDon

I use MSN IM myself and I don't mind it siging itself in automaticly because I'm the only one who uses this computer. I found how to fix the problem because I used to use a different account for my MSN IM activites and as Alex found out, there was no simple way to stop it from signing in, so hunting I went.

Alex, you are most welcome.

That's a new one on me because whenever I encountered that problem I cleared User Names and Password for MSN went under Content of Internet Options Cleared the Prompts and Saves, disabled Protected Storage under Services rebooted, re-enabled Protected Storage and all was/is well.
