MSN messenger 6 is a beta version. There have been several reviews that discuss how difficult some functions can be to set up, and what you are trying to do is one of them. I would unistall 6 and go back to the old version that was working properly.

Thanks for the info. I uninstalled as you said and got on to an old version. I seem to have lost all connection for audio. My camera is working and the sound is ok.The other party can see me but cannot hear me.I can see and hear the other party.
Any thing else i should do?
Your help greatly appreciated
Humphrey

One of the problems with 6 was that the person you were on line with also needed version 6 for many of the features to work. When you went back to the old version, did you go into tools and use the audio wizard to set audio back up?

No. I just went to start-programes and opened windows messenger. I did make contact with the other party but only by video.
Would you please walk me through what I need to do

Evening,
Just a quick note.
Are you using a Zonealarm firewall? The reason I ask this is because certain MSN Messenger versions will not work right because of the Zlonealarm firewall. I read that on a MSN Messenger troubleshooting page.
I had to change to Sygate Personal firewall to get Messenger to work on wife's computer.
Just my 2 cents worth,
XDon

I too am having trouble with MSN 6.0's audio.

I have a logitech Quickcam Pro 4000 and Windows XP. The camera's video and audio function properly except on MSN 6.0. The green sound bar will not move.

I am running on an RCN ISP (which is not NAT, I called to confirm) and am using McAfees Firewall Plus.

I think it has something to do with the firewall. A friend has an identical set-up (Logitech Qcam 4000 and Windows XP and MSN 6.0) and I can hear and see his A/V just fine.

Any suggestions?

Hi

I also had quite a few problems getting MSN Messenger 6.0 working, and they all appear to have been related to the fact that I have a firewall in place. You need to make sure that it supports UPnP and has it enabled and may also need to open up specific ports to enable voice and file transfer in Messenger. YThe links should give you some background info and the ports that need to be opened:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/columns/bowman/december24.asp

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;278887

In XP, you'll also need to install UPnP as it comes unintsalled as default. To do this, go Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs>Add/Remove Windows Components, select Networking Services, click on Details, tick the checkbox next to UPnP and click on OK to install.

Best of luck

Cheers

matho
