Hi, I have a problem installing applications that use "msi installer". I get an error message: (http://www.techsupportforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3846)
I checked the "windows installer" service and it is started but I still get the same error while trying to install ANY application that uses msi installer (msiexec). I don't have a clue to what may have gone wrong. Desperately I tried to reinstall windows XP (because at some stage MSI did worked) but it seems that the windows XP itself uses msi for its own installation... Catch 22 ???

Without knowing exactly what error message you get, I would try installing the full service pack of SP1 and if that did not do it, install the installer if you are able to do that. A quick search of "windows installer" in the help and support center(F1) will provide the links for the installer download and other pertinent info.

Hi, In the attached link I have placed a screen capture with the error message:
I have already installed SP1 and I have already tried to re-install the msi installer. The catch is that the msi installer uses msi installer in order to install himself, so I get the same error while trying to re-install "msi installer" :-)

As a follow up, I forgot to mention that some games and other programs interfere with MSI. Go to services(Local), there are several ways to get there but go to control panel|adminstrative tools|component services and scroll down to windows installer and change to auto if it is in manual and see if that helps.
