OS: XP Home
CPU/Ram: 1.6/512
Product: Dell Inspiron 2200
Comment:

After doing a Windows Update, my computer will not allow me to login. After the Windows loading screen, it comes up with a box "The Logon User Interface DLL msgina.dll failed to load. Contact your system administrator to replace the DLL, or restore the original DLL."

I have already replaced the DLL by following the instructions found here: http://www.pcformat.co.uk/tips/defa...

That didn't work... any other ideas???

Thanks,
- Nate

Nope... it never seems quite as easy as using "Last Known Good Configuration". I've also tried to boot into Safe Mode, but the error still appeared.

I ended up doing a repair install from the XP Home CD... it took forever, but it worked--sort of. Now Windows Update fails to install the "installer 3.1". I'm fed up with it. It came to me with a broken power jack, and that's now fixed so I'm calling it a success.

I had the same problem after a repair install awhile back. You have to allow your username special privileges (even though you are the only user)and it does work.
At this moment I'm not quite sure how I did that as it has been awhile, you may have to google that...sorry.

sorry to say, unless you list your username in special permissions no fixes will work. The info I gave was passed on by microsoft upper level tech support and that's the only thing that worked for me....I tried ALL the fixes I could find.
Good Luck
If I'm wrong...I'll be glad to apologise
