Is there any way to boot into MS-DOS mode with XP on your system without using a boot disk. I need to flash my bios through DOS on a computer that doesn't have a floppy drive, and I don't want to go through the trouble of installing one that I won't ever use. So if you know of a way, please help!

You could make a bootable DOS CD-ROM but I would rather take the 5mins to install a floppy drive, that is if you have one lying around.

There is no DOS in XP it does not exsist so you have to either boot to a floppy or a CD-ROM that contains the bootable files.

No DOS mode in XP world does not exist. It has been phased out.

Why not hook up a floppy and after your done, remove it? Config the BIOS to use it while connected, then remove it from the BIOS after it's disconnected.

The last time I upgraded my BIOS, the installer was written to run from the XP Desktop. Somehow those that wrote the BIOS to make my XP unit work properly; understood that XP had no DOS.

I would double check your BIOS file and read the installer notes. You may find that a floppy is not needed.

Does your BIOS boot from USB floppy drive, if so you can borrow one just for the flashing of your BIOS!

It is not a true dos mode but close/ Try hitting F8 when you starting your computer. Repeatedly hit it until a menu shows upand then choose command prompt safe mode.
Good luck... and let us know if you figure it out.
