Hello, My MSCONFIG will not open thru Start/Run command. It shows a window stating "Windows cannot find "msconfig". Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click search." So I searched for "msconfig". It found 6 files, MSCONFIG.CH_ - MSCONFIG - msconfig (Help) & 3 msconfig executables. I double clicked on 2 of the executable and msconfig opened fine. I did a second search later and there was 2 extra PF Files that were modified today. Here is a link to a picture of the searches ( http://www.geocities.com/iamdbestus... ). I just can't open it via Start/Run. I also checked some of your previous postings and found the Subject: "MSconfig won't open!" ( http://computing.net/windowsxp/wwwb... ). It stated the guy had a virus and I checked (Norton) and it showed none. They also told him how to delete MSCONFIG32.exe & dcomx.exe thru regedit.exe by the way regedit.exe. My ctrl+alt+delete, regedit.exe & other executables work on Start/Run command. I also searched for MSCONFIG32.exe & dcomx.exe and found nothing. Can someone tell me what my problem is. I thought if I don't fix the immediate problem, I may make a shortcut of "msconfig" and place it in the Quick Start Folder. Would that hurt? Will very much Appreciate any help. Thanks!!!!!

the only file required is MSCONFIG.exe in the folder SYSTEM32 ... get rid of any other MSCONFIG files, keep the help file if you want.

and no, creating a shortcut wouldn't hurt :)

p.s.: a recommended alternative is Autoruns.

Go to your 'C:\' directory and look for a file called 'boot.ini'. Its put there by a virus and can't be detected. It stops msconfig and others from running. Just delete it. I looked for 5 months for that simply answer, hope it solves your problem.
