I installed win xp on a compaq presario laptop 1200. Celeron 600, 192 mb ram. I try to open msconfig and I get an error message saying it can't be found. A friend with an armada had the same problem. Any ideas?

I guess posting a message is easier than using the search> for files or folders button on the start menu.

msconfig does not come with XP and probably won't work on XP... you don't need it. if you need to edit some configuration files use regedt32 or regedit or sysedit
i miss msconfig too

Msconfig does come with both XP Home and Pro, I have both and msconfig is on both CDs. But maybe it's not installed on those "major" brand all put together systems. They sure as heck don't want you removing their bloated stuff.

First, hey Chris why do you bother wasting your time responding? It's your lack of knowledge that prevents you from knowing that the problem could exist. I did a clean install to the 2 laptops and to a desktop using the same disk. Msconfig is available on the desktop but not on the 2 laptops. I did of course do a search on the laptop.

All I can say is that I use xp pro and have msgonfig in C:\WINDOWS\PCHEALTH\HELPCTR\Binaries asTim s said. Sorry for the miss location in my first post and anyway, like Chris said, just search it and it'll get it.

Msconfig is a part of XP so there is no reason, that I can think of, that it wouldn't be available in a laptop. I have XP Pro (clean boot installed) in my TP 770Z and it's there.

why don't you just copy it off of your working system and drop it in the 2 laptops, also copy the help file and drop that in too, it works fine when I drop it into win2k.
