I was having the same problem as most of you probably had. The blaster worm, msblast.exe. Well I was having the problem, but at the time I didn't think that it had anything to do with the internet. I have dsl so it would restart my computer as soon as I turned it on. I restarted in safe mode, and ofcourse it didn't turn off because it wasn't connected. So I deleted the files that I thought was causing the error, svchost, which I later found out was somewhat related to the worm, but wasn't the problem. After I restarted it next windows wouldn't load. Not even in safe mode. I tried to reinstall windows but it didn't let me. It is a possiblity that it was the cd, but not likely. I have looked everywhere and have found no solution. I've seen a few other people have the same problem in but never found an answer. PLEASE SOMEBODY HELP ME! I don't want to have to format my hard drive, but it could be the only answer.

You say it wouldn't let you reinstall? thats because the CD puts pre-installation files on the system disk, and wont delete them, the solution is to d/load the 6 Xp boot floppies from Microsoft.com and use those for the initial boot process, that way you can reinstall.
Another thought, did you try running a repair of Xp? that option is also available by booting to your Xp CD.

Have you done a search here on this forum? There were literally dozens of posts regarding MSBlast. If I'm not mistaken, the moderator is removing any new ones, as the same information just tends to be repeated over and over again.

I have done a search on this forum and I do realize that others are having problems with the same worm, but I am having a different error than most others. And replying to Hooner, I was looking into what you said and it would require me to format my hard drive and that's exactly what I was trying to avoid.

A repair install as Hooner suggests will NOT require to you to format your hard drive.

P.S. In the case of DSL, just unplug the ethernet cable from your computer...that will stop your computer from being on the Internet. You can also run services.msc and change the amount of time (or disable completely) for restarts. Look for RPC (Remote Procedure Call)

DO NOT disable RPC. It should NEVER be disabled. You're likely to have all kinds of problems if you do!
