My son called me and said he is getting an error msg that "MSASN1.DLL" cannot be found in his W98 based machine.
I found "MSASN1.DLL" in my WXP machine and sent him a copy.
Are the two files the same?
When he tries it in his machine what folder should he copy it to?
It was in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM332\ on my WXP based machine.

Bill, I don't know if the versions are the same but try the instructions at the link below.
A required .dll file, MSASN1.DLL, was not found

Never wise to swap files between different operating systems. It goes in c:\windows\system but I don't want to encourage you.
If he has the W98 CD he can get the file by typing sfc in the Run box and using the "extract one file" feature. It's very easy to use.
If not I can send you the correct file.
W95/98 forum would have been a good place for this one, quoting his specs rather than your own.

The internet if full of files you may be missing download one from a site that seems reiable.
Likely microsoft download center.
there is no C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ folder in 98. It is c:\windows\

Err...no cjae, it goes in c:\windows\system
(as given in my #3).It is an original W98SE MS file which is on the CD. It doesn't get updated so the SE version is the best one to use.
If you download one it is version 4.4.3345 dated 23rd April 1999. It is risky to download files without due regard for the version that is applicable.
As I said, I can send one if you wish.
