Gone is the familiar popup This copy of Windows is not genuine

Cometh the new popup Your system did not pass genuine validation.

I wonder what's next in MS never-ending anti-piracy games.

MS set to push out updated antipiracy tool

Now M$ is pushing it into a territory never bothered before...

The updated WGA Notifications tool will be gradually pushed out via Automatic Updates ...

My Windows XP is legitimate, so I have no worries about it passing or failing. Plus I choose my Windows Updates manually anyways, so I decide what I want downloaded and installed.

I guess there are some concerns about Microsoft's ability to "recieve pinging and/or spying upon" people during that WGA process. A bit beyond my level of expertise so I cannot comment on that.

But then again we all agree to the Microsoft EULA, so I guess we either use Windows and bind to their terms, or move on to Linux. That choice is easy for me....

only fools believe in WGA deterring software pirates. if the folks at microsoft aren't fools (which i believe) then their intention is far more sinister and of evil nature.

I might have had it all wrong.... I thought that WGA was a one-time prompt when doing Windows Updates. But now I read about Microsoft's ability to "continually ping", and now I'm all balled up and confused and unsure as to what they can and cannot do.

I'll have to leave that to you guys... I'm not the brightest LED in the light fixture, lol.

Amen to George Orwell. Wasn't that a bitter protest against the nightmarish future and corruption of truth and free speech of the modern world?

Was at one time your or your parents neighbor? If my memory serve me right he lived in some island off Ireland, no?

LOL.

Seriously I am beginning to equate the Redmond Behemoth as the Cathedral Systems in the 1995 film "The Net." Actress Sandra Ballock played Angela Bennett in it. If you haven't seen it - rent it from your local video store.

One time I was talking to a MVP that have been very helpful in the beginning. When I asked her a question related to the difference in a MSKB URLs (some numbers and character added following a document number) her tone suddenly changed. She told me there things are proprietary to M$ and she is not at liberty to explain it. Go figure.

No it's not that. I believe it has something to do with the a site counter. The more people click on his/her reference link, the higher the counter go up for more booty from Redmond (what else is it used for anyway):-)
