Sound Blaster 16 Not Working In Windows 95’S MS-DOS Mode

  • 4

I got an SB16 for my Packard Bell Multimedia. If I try to play games under Windows 95’s MS-DOS mode (the one you restart into, not a DOS box in Windows 95). None of the games I try detect the sound card, but it works fine in Windows 95. I tried installing drivers uses sabbasic.exe but it said I was running it from Windows 95 even though I was running it from command prompt only. How do I install drivers so it will work under Windows 95’s MS-DOS mode? Please help.

EDIT: Ignore the Toshiba / Libretto 50ct tag, it is incorrect.

  1. Wow, been there done that and forgotten it years ago LOL.

I did stumble across this which might give you some food for thought:

If there are no DOS drivers on your disk then you presumably need the SB16 ones from Creative, so I trust they are listed. The procedure on the video implies that it sets up the autoexec.bat and config.sys files automatically – hope it is that easy. You might not need the midi stuff, even if it applies.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome – thanks
