OS: Windows XP
CPU/Ram: Pentium (R) 4, 2.2 GHz, 2
Product: Dell Desktop
Comment:

We use Windows XP. IE, Messenger and Media Player will not open. They appear on the task bar, but will not restore or maximize. If you right click more than 1 or 2 times, they won't respond at all to any clicks. Can anyone help???

Hello MPick,
This happen often when you started to download, install and uninstall programs for any reason !!! You don't have too much chance to restore correctly your computer, in the matter of the fact you changed too much drivers and DLL's at the same time.
Remember some programs don't match with Windows XP, you have to read about it before to install any unknown program.
I suggest you make a full restauration of partition C, keeping all files you wish to protect on partition D
You will need of course to reinstall all programs after. Remember to reinstall first a anti-virus and a firewall right away to protect yourself ....... :))))

Thank you for your response. I just want to make sure I understand you correctly. Do you feel these programs (IE, Media, Messenger) were corrupted when others programs were downloaded or when the programs themselves were installed?
My kids are often download games froms the internet.
Thanks.

Hello MPick,
You just touched the main problem of kids using your computer !!!
I will not hide you if I say you should better give to your kids a second hand computer allowed for games... and keep your safe and outside of their hands :))))))
IE ( Internet Explorer ) is a very sensible program of the heart windows system, when IE is damaged, it is almost impossible to repair, The new version IE 7 is really fantastic, I invite you to download it from the official Microsoft Internet Explorer website in order not to get the first Beta version, actual version in MS is still a Beta, but corrected.
About MS Messenger, try to update to "Messenger Live Plus" really beautiful and more secure
Actually to use a computer with internet, you need to have a performant configuration to avoid problems:
1) you need a very performant ani-virus as for exemple : Kaspersky 6.00.303 watch it clicking on the red link below, this is a free 30 days trial but for the price of 40$ I think you get the best actually on the market.
2) you need a very performant anti-popups and anti-spywares. Here is two excellents freewares:
AdAware SE
Spybot S&D 1.4
Download it, your life in the net without pop-ups !!!!
3) To end you need a very performant firewall, here is maybe one on the best in the world, so good that Norton Symantec bought it to eradicate it, it was too much concurrence to their own products, but the freeware version of this program is still running all over the web
Sygate personal Firewall 5.6

With a computer configurated like this, you can sleep easily in front of your screen !!! believe me :))))) click on the red links above to access directly to the download websites
