have you tried expanding the MSPAINT.EX_ file off of your Windows XP CD to c:\windows\system32\mspaint.exe?

There is only one stupid question, The question that is not asked

You need your XP CD to expand the file.

1)
Move the current mspaint.exe from the
HARDDISKDRIVE:\windows\system32
folder to another folder, so you can put a new mspaint.exe in there.

2)
Open a CommandPrompt via
START>All Programs>Accessories
Type this into the CommandPrompt
!replace CDDRIVE & HARDDISKDRIVE with their drive-letters
!There's a space before CDDRIVE & HARDDISKDRIVE

expand CDDRIVE:\i386\MSPAINT.EX_ HARDDISKDRIVE:\windows\system32\mspaint.exe

As an example, this is how it could look:
expand D:\i386\MSPAINT.EX_ C:\windows\system32\mspaint.exe

So, just one line -but beware you put spaces in the right place- and then press ENTER to execute the expand command. To see all of the 'command-line options' for a command, type: expand /?. To see all the commands, type help into the commandprompt.

That should do it. This procedure can also be done by typing msconfig into the run-box, and then theexpand file button on the general page, but it's easier from a commandprompt.
