Hi,
When I got my new computer the program 'Microsoft Office' came with it free for 60 days.
(1) After 60 days from the date I bought the computer will this program be taken off my computer automatically or do I have to remove it manually?
(2) Also, do you think there are any other programs I have that might rely on this program in one way or another?
I never had it on my old computer (an aging Packard Bell running Win95a) so it isn't something I ever used or am familiar with.
Thanks and regards,
Phil

Normally a time dated piece of software will stop working at the end of the trial period. At that point you have to manually remove the program as it is now useless to you.
This should not cause any problems in your computer as nothing should be dependant on MS Office to run.

This is M$'s carrot and stick. They put it there to lure you to upgrade it to the full working version (at what cost I have no idea).
After 60 days I believe it will be totally nonoperative. I also believe they don't give you instruction how to remove it unless it comes with its own uninstaller. Otherwise you're pretty much on your own how to get rid of it.

If you used Outlook not Outlook Express for your Emails, you will lose them unless you save them (if you uninstalled Office). Any files you made using Office should be transfered to a folder outside of Office before the expiry date if you want to keep them.

Hi michael2, XpUser and terii,
I appreciate all your posts and the information you passed with them.
Thanks and regards,

If you are using Outlook for email etc and your 60 days is not up you may want to go here to download and install the backup tool for Outlook. That will move your .pst file to another location where it can be retreived later when you purchase the full blown version of Office. If you are not using Outlook then this is of no value to you.

Hi terii and mike,
Thanks for the added information and help.

I have a new PC that came with several time expiring packages. eg. McAfee and PhotoShop.
Being concerned about being able to properly uninstall them using Add/Remove I uninstalled them a couple of days before their expirations. I had fears that I would be faced with a problem uninstalling them if I waited past the expiration date being that they would be disabled.

Hi Bryco,
My fears exactly. I got rid of 'Office' a few hours ago for just that reason.
Thanks for your thoughts on the subject too.
Have a great weekend!
Regards,
Phil
