MS Messinger is the thing that won't go away! I have repeatedly removed (unchecked) it using msconfig startup, rebooted and seen it not show up on the system tray. Inexplicably it will reappear from time to time. When I check msconfig I find it is checked off to start again. If you install an automatic update that affects it Microsoft uses that as an excuse to check it off again so it starts up. It seems to happen at other times too and I don't understand why. I have no other explanation other than Microsoft typically trying to force their products down our throats whether we want them or not. Anyone have a way to kill this once and for all?

uninstall windows messenger:
go to c:\windows\inf\ and open sysoc.inf. Find msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OCEtry,msmsgs.inf,hide,7 in the file and take out the word hide so that the line would look like msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OCEtry,msmsgs.inf,,7 . The save and close the file. Go to Control Panel->Add and Remove programs and you will be able to uninstall Windows Messenger. Make sure to click on that Add and Remove Windows components. Hope this helps. Bye

To completely remove messenger click run from start menue and enter this and follow prompts
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove
Gets completely rid of it

Microsoft built in a way to not have Msn load at Startup. You do not have to fool around with msconfig. Open the Msn messenger, go to Tools/Options/Preferences tab. Uncheck 'Run this program when Windows starts', then click OK. Msn will not start up the next time you start Windows. And yes, if you upgrade to a newer version of Msn, you will have to do this shut off again, but if you don't use Msn, then you probably are not going to upgrade it.

I just noticed that if you remove msn messenger you going to have a critical update as soon as you reboot. meaning msn is built in the xps kernel. sucks!!!

Easy...Go into your Program Files folder and find another folder called MSN Messenger, right click it and delete it. It will not come back and will not load again once you have rebooted. Seems too easy but this is true!!
