Everytime I run Messenger,I get the security warning IM from microsoft stating that my version is out of date and I need to upgrade to version 6.
I upgraded twice already and I keep getting the warning. The version I am running is 4.7 and as I said before I downloaded the upgrade from msn, installed it on two different occasions and yet I am still running version 4.7?
Please help!!
Thanks.

I think you are getting confused with Windows Messenger and MSN Messenger.
What is probably happening is if you are using a automatic sign in then it's probably going into Windows Messenger instead of MSN Messenger 6.

When you install MSN 6 it Still leaves Windows Messenger on your computer because Windows Messenger comes with XP and is a Windows Component.

In order to have the latest version of Messenger and to stop this from happening firstly uninstall Windows Messenger by typing this in the run dialog.

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

It should ask to reboot and when it does Windows Messenger should be gone.

It can't be stopped when you are using Trillian as Trillian is *roughly* version 5 [or lower] based. On a sidenote, MSN is looking to prevent Trillian [and any other 3rd party users] from using the messenger service, so you may wish to consider an alternative.

InfoWorld: Microsoft to lock down MSN Messenger network: August 19, 2003: By : Networking

Quoting the InfoWorld Article: "Besides those older Messenger clients, the move also affects IM software such as Trillian, Imici and Odigo that allow users to consolidate multiple IM accounts in one client, Sundwall said. "

So in short, don't bother upgrading.

Actually no, you'd better upgrade o.0:

"Users have to upgrade to the latest versions of MSN or Windows Messenger by Oct. 15 or they will no longer be able to log on, Microsoft spokesman Sean Sundwall said." - InfoWorld

...looks like your stuck with version 6.0.
