The computer has WinXP on it. My colleague has recently updated MS Access 2000 to 2002. Then whenever she wants to open a file, which she used to be able to access, this error message shows up:

MS Access cannot open this file. This file is out of your intranet. MS Access cannot open this file due to possible security problems.

Anyone has an idea?

Is the file located on a Network drive? If so, you need to add that host machine to your Local Intranet in Internet Explorer.

It's true that the file lies on a network drive. But before the update to Access 2002 from 2000, it can access the data without problems. Why do we have to extra set now?

Moreover, why is it in IE? Do you have some relevant technical information for me to refer to?

Thanks in advance for your help!

This has nothing to do with access itself, and everything to do with file permissions.

Access files are "backwards compatiable" meaning if you have an access file you created in Access 2000, you will be able to open it up with Access 2002. Make sure that the file doesn't have any user permissions attached to it. If there is delete the permissions.

My goodness. It's almost as if you don't believe my fix for this.

The reason you get this error is because of the IE Security settings (Microsoft had to harden them with the patches that they put out because they were being exploited so much). All you need to do to fix this is to add the machine to the IE Trusted sites. You can do this by going to IE, Tools, Internet
Options, Security, Trusted Sites, Sites. Add your Domain Controller, or Server machine name and remove the check mark from the box that states Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone.

"Relevant technical information" is available in the MSKB, which is where I found the fix initially (well over a year ago.)

Remember also, the database will have to be upgraded. Backwards compatible actually means that you can open up a newer version of a program file in an older version of the software. Not the case in Outlook XP.
