I am still in the process of building the new box, but pretty soon, when the box is running and Win XP and all apps are installed, I want to copy over from the old box to the new a) contents of My Documents plus other data, b) Outlook Express address book, c) OE mail folders and d) OE favorites.
(If there is something vital that should also be moved in relation to OE, please feel free to tell me.)
What I have done so far is
--made a CD with all data (My Documents and other data)
--made a CD with Windows\All Users
\Application Data\Favorites
\FavoritesOnce the new box is running, I would copy all the files from My Documents etc to the new My Documents (omitting the title of the folder), and then do the same for the other OE folders, again omitting the title of the folder.
My question is: am I proceeding correctly, particularly when it comes to the OE stuff. I want to make sure I copy over all email, email folders, address books, and favorites list, but wonder if this method will also cause copying of things new box should not have.
Your thoughts appreciated. -- Judy

Start menu --> All programs --> Accessories --> System tools --> "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard"
This will save you a bundle of time and will allow you to select different areas of your computer.. It will compress into a file. you can then save it to CDR.
load up your new computer and run the same program and import this file it created.
May I ask why you dont just transfer of the Harddrive to the new system?

The old box runs under Win 98SE, and I am concerned that some of the settings there will conflict with Win XP; also, I don't think I have ever seen a "Files and Transfer" setting (?) in Win 98SE; I will take a look, though.
As far as transferring the old hard drive into the new box, the new box has 2 SATA 160 GB drives which will be set as RAID 1; the old drive is a 40GB parallel drive, and I would like to keep this old box for a while (until I know the new one is running well) and then give it to a friend who does not have a computer.
