I moved by accident the "Show desktop" icon from the quick launch bar onto the desktop. I cannot move it back. If I try to drag it onto the Quick launch bar it only creates a shortcut. As soon as I delete the "Show desktop" file from the desktop the shortcut on the bar won't work.

Please Help!

Check the properties in the one that works on the desktop and compare them with the quick launch icon. If that doesn't work, go to windows explorer, search for the file "show desptop.scf" (without the quotes)-- it should be in documents and settings under your username - and drag it to quick launch bar creating a shortcut there.

Don't know why your other solution didn't work, but maybe because you created a shortcut of a shortcut, and since that point to the one on the desktop and you deleted it, it couldn't find it anymore.

If the above doesn't help:

the procedure below will recreate the file.

Open Notepad and enter the following text:

[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=explorer.exe,3
[Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop

Save the new file as Show Desktop.scf then drag and drop the icon on the Quick Launch bar or whatever location you want the shortcut to appear

Use the right mouse bar to drag and drop it on quick launch instead of the left. You should get a pop up box with the option to move here... click on it.

OK, I installed a game called SimTown that some idiot programmer created sound files for and had the sound files associated to that application. Guess what the extension of the sound files are? ".scf"

Consequently, I boot up my computer and see this silly little icon in my quick launch bar (it looks like a little red house) and delete it - thinking the whole time, "who messed with my quick launch? I need that 'show desktop' icon." Well, that icon was my show desktop icon in a veiled form.

I then got online and saw the post's in this forum on how to solve the problem. I followed them and it still doesnt work.

So, when I try to do the correction steps (I am using XP pro) It doesnt work. I get a popup that says "program not found, search web or select from list, etc..."

Does anyone know how to repair the .scf file association? I removed the game but the association seems to have been "orphaned" (for lack of a better term) and is now NOT associated with windows xp file extenstion associations.

Thus, no show desktop!

Thanks for the help
