Anybody know where I can find a good tutorial on moving the Outlook.pst file. You would believe the problems I have had with contacts etc.

you don't move it...you export it or import it!
making a back up is the same thing as what you wish to do this explains how to and how to restore the files later on..

when I did a search for the outlook.pst file from the c drive root dir I noticed that Windows Explorer doesnt find it. But when I search from the Outlook folder itself it does find it.
Why is there a copy of Outlook.pst in c:/Document and settings/name/Application Data/Microsoft/Outlook
and another one in c:/Document and settings/name/local settings/Application Data/Microsoft/Outlook

What exactly is it you're trying to do? Are you having difficulty opening Outlook? Provide more information, and we can help you. If you need to move the pst to a data storage location (preferably NOT on the same partition as the OS), it's not a difficult process.
And FYI, there is an Office Software Forum for all Office/Software questions.

That is because Windows XP (and W2K, I believe) consider .pst files to be system files and hide them by default. You can open Windows Explorer, and choose Tools, Folder Options. On the View tab, select "Show hidden files and folders." After you close the dialog box, you should now be able to see the .pst file in the folder.

Just want to move the Outlook.pst file to 2nd hard drive and noticed it appears in 2 different location on the c drive. Which one do I move.

Open up outlook and go into the settings. There is an option somewhere to specify the storage file. Whatever it is currently set to is the file you want to move.

Not knowing which version of Outlook, you have:
Open Control Panel
Data Files
Look and see what the name and path are for the Mail Delivery file
Close that windowThen, locate that file under your profile. Move it to the location you wish. Open Outlook and you'll receive an error that the Delivery file can't be found. Browse to the new location. After you have the file open, if there is an additional Personal Folder listed, go back into the Data Files and remove it from the list.
