OK this is what I've got:

30gb on Primary Master (main hdd)
40gb on Primary Slave (spare hdd)

The 30gb is the main one we use, and I put the 40gb in as a spare. I want to move the 30gb hdd (windows setup and all stuff etc) onto the 40gb, then format the 30gb (cos it's way more reliable and quiet than the 40gb.

Q- Will I be able to keep the serial numbers for the new installation? (Namely MYOB, Norton IS 2006 and Office)

Q- Will the 40gb (with the 30gb's contents and i'll copy the documents over, I need to have a backup at all times, and I would normally burn and wipe the drive but as I said, I need the originals (the owner has a verry messy PC)

It depends on what you try to transfer the data with on wether or not it will transfer all the information or foul it all up.

If the owner has such a messed up computer then what ever you copy to one disc to the other is going to mess it up also. I suggest that you get the original installation discs with the serials and reformat and reinstall totally fresh.

There are some programs out there that will list all the serials for the programs that are installed

SIW is a great product and it's free.

Now if the owner has pirated the programs that are installed then it is a 50/50 chance on being able to reinstall them and activating them to work.

Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image should both undertake what you want to achieve without reinstalling or re-activating.....

I agree with ham30. If it is working don't fix it.

Moving a hard drive in an older machine is no guarantee that you are going to speed it up. That problem goes much deeper than the HD.

The PC is an AMD Athlon 1700+ 256mb RAM (adding more) and the hard drives make it slower than a wet week
