I have an80gb hdd with Win XP Pro on it along with a 2nd SATA 320gb drive. I have a 100gb partition on the 320 will all the data on the 220gb partition. I want to move this hdd to a new pc and install XP on the 100gb partition. Can I go this without losing the data on the 220gb partition? I will back-up just in case, but it would be nice to have it transfer.

Yes, the data 220 gb partition will remain intact providing you don't do something stupid like format the wrong drive.
Any applications on this 220Gb partition will have to be re-installed.

If I were you, this is what I will do:
I will install Windows plus all applications on the 100gb partition only - without touching the 220GB partition. After that I will configure the applications to look to the 220GB partition for data files.
HOWEVER, I think 100GB partition for Windows is excessive.

I may re-partition the hdd before I remove it from my old system. I was going to install windows on the 100 as it was already there. Is it worth making a smaller partition when I format?

with a new install of xp you will have a access denied to the 220 partition. Google taking ownership of files to address that issue.
Are you ready for where Microsoft wants you to go today?
