Whenever I play movie files, it will play for about 10 minutes and then just freeze. The audio skips and the only way to stop it is to restart the computer manually. I have tried it with different players,(wmp, winamp, divx) but it does the same on both. I'm wondering if it has to do with the dual xeon processors. I also have a PCI geforce 4 440 video card.

updated the video card drivers yet?
have you tried viewing the movies with just one program, or more than one?

1.Update ur graphics drivers:
start>control panel>system>hardware>device manager: display adapters>right click"nameof ur display driver">properties>driver>update driver.
Try playing the movies again. If it doesnot work or if ur driver is already uptodate try the following.
2. Go to:
Start>Control Panel>Display>Settings>Advanced>troubleshoot
Move the slider under "hardware acceleration" to the left end(=0).close and try again.

Ok, changing the hardware acceleration to 0 has seemed to work, but now what. Do I have to leave it there? Its not supposed to be there, or does it even matter? Any ideas?

oops, you did say you tried it with more than one program

did you update your graphics card's driver? if the hardware acceleration is the problem, its usually cos of an old video card (obviously not the case for you) or old video card drivers

try using some hardware acceleration, but not all ... play around with it and try the various settings, try to use as much hardware acceleration without your freezing problem recurring

there is definitely a performance decrease, but the difference varies. the question to ask yourself is "do i notice the difference?"

anyway, pay around with the hardware acceleration bar and see how much acceleration you CAN use
