Comment:

I've searched all the messages and haven't found a cure.
I up-graded my OS to WinXP from Win98se and ever since that, my mouse is driving me crazy by when I use a single click, it does a double click, so that when I go to print something, I get 2 copies printed and when I click on the back button, it goes back 2 pages...it is real frustrating. I went into the control panel and adjusted my mouse as much as I could, but I still get that problem, sometimes it clicks single, sometimes it does multiple clicks....you never know. It is a P2 mouse (2 butttons and a wheel). I never had a problem with Win98se, just with XP. Does anyone know a solution to this annoyance? Thanks

Go to your Mouse properties in control panel and set your buttons up the way you prefer.
If your using the software that comes with the mouse use it's software to set it up.

sometimes with Windows, it's easier to just try a new component, rather than trying 100 fixes on an old one. Just buy a new USB mouse. You can get one for just a few quid.

Uninstall the mouse software and remove the mouse from the device manager by (right clicking MY COMPUTER, HARDWARE tab, DEVIDE MANAGER button) find mice and delete it, afterwards restart the machine and let it auto detect the mouse. maybe this will work for you.

sorry... DEVICE MANAGER :)
also, before you installed XP, did you check to see if all your 98 hardware and software were compatable with XP? If not, that may be where your problem exists.

Start Menu/Control Panel/Folder Options/"check the box double click to open, single click to chose" and see if things change, also try a restart after making changes and see what happens. Or, set to single click and enjoy the single clicking. Some applications don't work with the single click in wich case you then double click.
