Hey guys!
For some reason after installing winXP final by a couple of days, my mouse started jittering, and then a few seconds later it just froze!

I restarted my computer and it was still locked up. So I tried to look in the mouse properties .. and guess what?
The mouse driver was gone!
So I reinstalled the mosue driver .. adn it worked!!
the next day the same thing happened!
But this time .. reinstalling the driver did nothing!
The mouse was still locked up .. I tried all the updates ont he windows sites, I tried everything possible .. but still nothing works!
My mosue uses the intelliMouse Drivers, I tried to install their latest "Win XP compatible drivers" (yeah right!) but it's still locked up until today!
My motherboard is an Asus p3c2000.
Please can someone shed any light on this subject?
I also tried connecting it to the serial port byt using a serial port adapter .. and it didn't work. I tried getting a new mouse to see if the mouse was the problem, but it still didn't work.

please somebody help me! I am desginer so I need the mouse to work!
Thank you!

Your post exemplifies 3 common myths:

1. M$FT's latest OS ensures compatability

2. Safest peripheral, where possible, is M$FT branded.

3. Any PS2 mouse can be hooked up to a serial port with an adaptor.

My advice:

Redeploy Win98(se). For now and the foreseeable future, it will support more devices and apps than XP.

Howdy, is this a legit version of the OS. A lot of people who have downloaded or have a warez copy have these weird wacked crazy problems. Just wondering.

Why are you here Moeity?

Are you here just to get everyone back to 98! Crazy boy!!!

XP (so far) is great! As soon as all the relevant drivers for people come out this forum is gonna be pretty empty! Mark my words. MS aint to blame, how much time have all these other companies had to produce up to date drivers...?

MS, as usual, bares the brunt of complaints cos of someone elses failing.

Yup it's legit.
my company's recieved this verison(winXP proffessional Final) a few weeks before release date because our Tech departmenet manager subscribed as an official MS tester, or whatever MS calls them.
Apparently this version is the same as the one in stores today .. and it's been working flawlessly UNTIL (and this is the suspicious part) the day WinXP got officialy released!
I went to update the drivers and all of a sudden I am facing a fwe new problems .. one of them was how windows update always keeps telling me that I need to install the Critical update .. although I've installed the same Critical update almost 5 times in a row!
The second and most deadly problem is my mouse freezing!

(a third one is winXP restarting in the middle of games like half-life and Max Payne, but I can understand that because this is the Professional(NT) version after all and is not optimized for games)

I would really appreciate it if anyone could shed any light on how to get my mouse working again, because I really like XP so far (excpet for the three wierd bugs) and don't want to reinstall it.

Oh, also another wierd thing I found in XP which i think MS should concentrate on fixing .. is it's Networking functions.
After upgrading from winME (which it's networking worked flawlessly for me) to XP,
and configured all three of my computers to use internet connection sharing (same way I did with ME) through my Updated XP machine .. whenever I switch off one of the computers .. I keep getting these REALLY annoying notices in the taskbar on my XP machine that keep poping up every second Saying "The network cable is unplugged" and it keeps popping up simulatneously one after the other until I switch all the Client Computers back on!
These notices don't slow down the connection speed for any of the client computers .. but it bugs the hell out of me!

OK .. so it turns out my mouse was actually expiring!
I got a new mouse .. and reinstalled the drivers .. now the damn thing works!
thank god!

However the rest of the issues still apply!
Especially the "A Network cable is unplugged" notice that shows up all the time!
Still drives me up the wall .. forces me to keep all the compters on all the time so i don't get them on my XP

you can turn off the auto update feature
so it won't bug you when there is an update
and then when you want to check for updates
do it manually.
