mouse keeps freezing

my mouse seems to keep freezing at random times while using it, the only way to unfreeze it is to unplug it and plug it back in. its an optical thermaltake mouse. i tried reinstalling drivers, updating drivers and reinstalling windows xp. but for some strange reason ball mouse rather than optical.
