Margo1 December 1, 2010 at 11:29:40 Specs: Windows XP
Old (7 +/- years) desk top using Windows XP. Just replaced battery after receiving CMOS/GPNV checksum bad. A memory error was detected. Memory Timings reset to automatic. Get as far as startup window but now my mouse freezes. I am sometimes able to enter password and then press enter but machine freezes shortly afterwards and will not boot up. Sorry about not knowing CPU or Ram. Can't locate material on this PC but still looking. Keyboard works and I know that the new battery allowed PC to remember proper date and time (was able to F10 and get menu to reset time and date). What can I do to try to unfreeze my mouse and access my files on my PC? This computer does not have access to the internet.
If it does not have access to the internet then I would say that there is a problem with the hardware. Test the Ram and Hard drive. I use seagate seatools for the hard drive and Memtest for the memory. Both are free.
