I have a single computer system running on windows xp professional & windows 98 installed on c: & f: respectively. I am currently not able to connect to the net using my Motorola SM56 PCI Speaker Phone Modem, since windows Xp doesn't accept the drivers (I had tried to install the win 2000 drivers for my modem for win xp). And I couldn't find any updated driver file for xp at Motorola's site also. Please guide me on how to solve this issue.

Prince,
I have the same modem and went through the same problems. I e-mailed Motorola about this and they said there are no drivers made for XP and the 2000 drivers would only work on a clean hard drive with a fresh install of Windows XP (Professional only). They offer no guarantees that it will work. Here's the link they gave me to the drivers site.
http://e-www.motorola.com/collateral/SM56_DRIVERS.htmlBest advice I can give you is to boot into 98 whenever you want to use the internet. I dual boot right now and that's what I have to do. Other than that, time to go modem shopping. Best of luck.

Guys,
Wait!
I have a SM56 at home, after ages I got it working on Windows XP, I used the 2K drivers from the link Thruster mentioned and my modem refused to work, until by accident I right-clicked on the modem icon in the system tray at the right of the taskbar and in the country selection drop-down list I selected "Universal".
I tried several times changing this from my country (UK) to "Universal", and the modem works perfectly with "Universal" selected and refuses to work with anything else. My guess is that doing a clean XP instal that "Universal" happens to get selected instead of your country.
I really hope you can get your SM56s working too, I know how chuffed I was when I got mine working.
Yours,
Andrew

Hey Guys,
The Win2000 Drivers do work under Windows XP!! Fear not, and allow me to tell a tale...
It took me DAYS to install this thing, but, the work has paid off. Here's some pointers that may help you.
First of all, when I first tried to install the Win2K drivers the installation would halt as soon as it got to 100%... Plan B...
I saw a posting saying that it is best to reboot to Safe Mode, then install the Win2K drivers, did that, install went through, but, when I restarted normally, it would restart on itself the moment it tries to dial.
After heaps of frustration, and being 3:30 in the morning, I decided to chill out and watch a DivX, in brief, the install of the Codec I was using failed. I got this wierd "Stop" message when I rebooted that time suggesting I switch Display Adapters.
Rebooting in Safe Mode then I uninstalled my codec and in haste, uninstalled the two "Uninstall SM56 Motorola Driver" listing that were there to. The second one I did came up with a message like "Would you like to Upgrade?" and a long description. Tired, didn't know what the whole thing meant so I just clicked yes and rebooted. - Am I GLAD I did!!!
On Reboot this time, it found the PCI Card, installed the Win2K drivers and went up without a hitch!!!!!
Don't Give UP! - Fiddle!
Jester
