Greetings!

I received an update at 3:22 a.m. on Friday
and since that update (and the force reboot)
I notice the following issues:

1) at hard boot or soft reboot, the screen
hangs at the chipset identifiers I'll repost
exactly, but a logo for intel and i think ZD?
will edit. The computer takes at least 5
minutes to load and no function key or enter
key combinations seem to change that
responsiveness. This is different then prior
to the update, when load time was
surprisingly speedy (I just purchased a "new-
to-me" XP desktop to replace an older one).
I've had not boot up problems with the
machine prior to Friday.

2) Last night I turned off the machine and
when I started up this morning, 2/15/09, the
computer can't seem to find the appropriate
driver for my monitor, although it did find
it before. i need 1600 X 1050 resolution and I have not installed any custom drivers
or changed any video configurations knowingly
or intentionally. Before searching and
downloading a driver, I figured I would ask
since as far as I know the problem is not
necessarily due to a missing drive, since all
worked well until I shut down last night. (NOTE: i did need to do this with my older computer whose vid card didnt' support the newer monitor resolutions until I found a driver upgrade).

I am concerned that more errors exist then
are apparent to me, as I am not a power user
(I'm savvy, but I mainly running tools, 3rd
party productivity and entertainment software
) Can anyone recommend diagnostics and/or
solutions to help me know what happened and
how to fix?

With guidance, I'm comfortable with just
about any needed proceedures (including
registry changes, etc.), but not savvy enough
to wade into anything on my own without
advice and research first.

I know my specs have been scanned, so I guess
I just need to add that my monitor is a
ViewSonic, it didn't find the proper 1600 X
1050 resolution when I first brought the
computer home about a month ago, but
aftergetting everything set up and rebooting,
the proper resolution was offered as an
option in the display settings dialog. I haven't had any issues until today.

But I'm more concerned about the boot hang and what is and isn't happening that should be happening there.

Thank you in advance.

Peace

Either uninstall the update, or run a System Restore to a time before it was installed.

Thanks, Jennifer. I'll try that.
