While I'm playing any games (OpenGL and Direct3d) out of no where the screen will go black and the monitor light goes from green to orange. Then if I turn the monitor off and back on, a messages comes up saying "No signal input". Is this a problem with my video card or my monitor? Other times my screen will suddenly become all garbeled looking and I have to restart. My video card drivers are up to date. Here are some of my system specs:

Memory - 1.02 Gb (1 048 048 Kb) A0: 512 Mb(DIMM,SDRAM,60 ns) A1: 512 Mb(DIMM,SDRAM,60 ns)

The easiest way to tell is to try a different monitor. If the same happens, you know it is the video card. (Or, the monitor does the same thing with a different pc, you know it is the monitor).

Also, you could carefully open the case and run the pc. Start playing a game. Make sure the fan on the video card is spinning.

I had trouble with my monitor being black wirh an orange light on re-boot. I had a Viewsonic A-70 and 64MB Nvidia 440MX SE video card. Finally had to buy a new monitor. They said one of the pins in the connector was probably bent.

Got a new 17" Viewsonic VA720 and it works just great.

How frequently does this happen? And is it always after roughly the same amount of time, or fairly random?

If it seems pretty random I would check the connection between monitor and pc, and also the power connection to the monitor, for loose connections. Try wiggling both leads.

Also, depending on your OS it could be a power-saving problem, i get this with some of the customers I deal with.

Try going into display properties, click screen saver tab, click 'power', and look for the "turn monitor off after..." setting - change it to 'never'. See if that helps.

Also if you can borrow one it would be worth trying a different monitor.

good luck.

I tried using a different monitor, the fan is working on the video card, and I did the power saving thing... but I'm still having the same problem.
