Monitor won't turn on

I was on the internet doing a report for school when all of a sudden my monitor turned off. So I turned off the computer and turned it back on thinking that would help but the monitor's light doesn't even come on at all. I checked all the cords to make sure they were plugged in tight and they were. Do I need to buy a new monitor or is this fixable?

Erk sounds terminal to me sadly.
If no light comes on then it's cream crackered - most monitors, even when not connected to the PC, will show a power light (sometimes it is a dimmer glow to identify there is no signal from the PC).
I am not holding much hope for this one.
