monitor wont turn on when i plug everythingin

Specs: Windows XP
i bought a dell computer today and i can hear that it is turning on but the monitor doesnt turn on and says that it isnt communicating with the system and that the monitor is fine so i tried another monitor and no go same thing happened. do i need to replace the hook in where the plug off of the monitor hooks into or what.

Does your computer have an internal speaker? If so does it beep like 2 seconds after turning it on? If it does not have a speaker, put a CD in, does it try to load the CD like 10 seconds after booting? If not then there is a problem inside your computer which will require a call to Dells tech support to prevent voiding your warranty.

If this is a new Dell... contact them immediately as this ought to be covered under warranty...

it is not a new dell, it is a used one that i bought off of someone

If your answers to ace_omega's questions in response #1 were no, then you have a 'serious' hardware problem with the PC. It is not working at all.
