Monitor won't shut off with saver

I've having trouble getting my monitor to power off in XP whenever a screen saver is active. If I set the screen saver for 1 minute and then under Power I tell it to turn off the monitor in 2 minutes, the monitor stays on. If I select no screen saver, then the monitor shuts off. I tried this on another computer and it works perfectly. The saver comes on, then the monitor shuts off. I originally wanted to set the screen saver to 20 minutes and the monitor off to 1 hour. I have a P4 2.1ghz, GeForce 3 video card. The Samsung monitor, fairly new, is plenty capable of turning off. Just not if the screen saver gets there first. Any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks.

Try a different screen saver.
Also, make sure you have the correct monitor set up and not some "default" monitor.

Thanks for the suggestions. I also found a service pack that seems to help. The monitor now goes black as if it's turning off. I don't hear it cooling off like when I press the power switch, but at least it's in a low power state. If you know where the page is with the registry tweaks and could tell me, that would be great. If not, it works somewhat better for now. Thanks again.

Summary: You don't need screensavers like you used to, new monitors don't burn in like old monitors did. So you can safely turn off the screensaver and let it power down your monitor. Just a thought but maybe...
