I have a computer that I was going to Set Up for a starter computer for my son and father. I got the computer from a friend, and when I plugged everything in, all worked fine, until I got to the main page, there was a message saying the computer was going to shut down in 45sec., I knew right away what was wrong with the computer....MSBLAST WORM has infected the compter. So I reboot the computer with OS disks in all the drives, but when everything went to start up, the monitor no longer turned on. I know the monitor is, i'm using it right now, so I tried another monitor that i have and it was a no go also, and i know that one works fine to, i hooked it up to my compter. I have no clue what has happened in between startups. Does anyone have a clue?

Sounds like more damage has been caused, do you hear anything when you turn the computer on, ie, does the cpu fan start up, do you see the tell tale led's lighting up.
Does the monitor led start on green and then go orange or what.
A more desciptive post about what you can hear and see would help.

Alan..

Sorry about not posting everything. Yes the fan goes, it gives the little beep most computer do when its loading up normally. The monitor light stays red, does not turn green or orange. It's like the computer is not reading the monitor as being hooked up to it.

I would take the video card out and reseat it. If it is pci video, I would take it out and put it into a different slot. If you get it going, update the driver if there is one available. Hope that helps.

You don't really need to boot from the system disk. If you have 45 seconds once you get in, just quickly do the reg fix shown below. You only have 45 seconds so, move quick.

MANUAL REMOVAL INSTRUCTIONS

Terminating the Malware Program

This procedure terminates the running malware process from memory.

Open Windows Task Manager, press
CTRL+SHIFT+ESC, and click the Processes tab.
In the list of running programs, locate the process:
MSBLAST.EXE

Select the malware process, then press the End Process button.
To check if the malware process has been terminated, close Task Manager, and then open it again.
Close Task Manager.
Removing Autostart Entries from the Registry

Removing autostart entries from the registry prevents the malware from executing during startup.

Open Registry Editor. To do this, click Start>Run, type Regedit, then press Enter.
In the left panel, double-click the following:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>Software>Microsoft>
Windows>CurrentVersion>Run
In the right panel, locate and delete the entry:
"windows auto update" = MSBLAST.exe
Close Registry Editor.
