Well lets see. this is a very strange error. mostly when I try to use Direct3D games, my monitor goes into standby, the same as it would if the computer was turned off. the monitor is a Philips 107S and the video card is a 3D Labs Permedia 2 with 4mb memory.
I have heard of ppl getting this with specific games, it seems to do it when the monitor is changing its settings. I have tried both the included winxp drivers and win9x ones for my monitor and same with the video card.
any help would be appreciated.
thanx

It is common for a monitor to go into standby quickly when it is changing settings. Although it is for such a short period of time, it does it. If it is staying in standby, then it sounds like a problem with your card. I too had a 4mb card at one point, and when I upgraded I stopped having probs. Graphics cards are cheap now, so it might be worth the upgrade. I found a decent 32mb card for $30, and I got my sweet 64mb card for $70. You make the decision. :)

I think this is unlikely to be the problem but...
I had this problem with my old monitor, because the graphics card was demanding higher resolutions than the monitor was capable of, so it changes mode when a game starts up and the monitor blacks out but the picture doesnt come back beacuse the monitor cant display the resolution being asked for.
This should be fixed by making sure you install the graphics card drivers before you install the monitor drivers.
But looking at the capabilities of the monitor this does seem a little unlikely.
