Monitor shuts down when Windows start up

Specs: Windows XP
Hi! My system (XP, SP2, Dell XPS 400 with a Dell AS501 monitor) will boot up fine, but when it gets past the first Windows page (with the loading bar), the monitor shuts down (the power light goes orange). I can get into safe mode all right, but when I check the Display Properties / Settings / Advanced / Adapter, it shows all adapter information as <unavailable>, and under Properties, is shows VGASave as the driver, and Not Plug and Play. I've tried changing the settings in safe mode, but they won't change at all. How can I replace / update the video drivers so I can get out of having to run in safe mode? Thanks!
